From H4711 in the sense of greedily devouring for sweetness; properly sweetness; concretely sweet (that is, not soured or bittered with yeast); specifically an unfermented cake or loaf, or (elliptically) the festival of Passover (because no leaven was then used): – unleavened (bread, cake), without leaven.
LEVITICUS 23:1 - 2

LEVITICUS 23:4 - 8

EXODUS 12:15 - 20
15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; EVEN THE FIRST DAY YE SHALL PUT AWAY LEAVEN OUT OF YOUR HOUSES: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, THAT SOUL SHALL BE CUT OFF FROM ISRAEL. 16 And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you. 17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; FOR IN THIS SELFSAME DAY HAVE I BROUGHT YOUR ARMIES OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever. 18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even. 19 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: FOR WHOSOEVER EATETH THAT WHICH IS LEAVENED, EVEN THAT SOUL SHALL BE CUT OFF FROM THE CONGREGATION OF ISRAEL, WHETHER HE BE A STRANGER, OR BORN IN THE LAND. 20 YE SHALL EAT NOTHING LEAVENED; IN ALL YOUR HABITATIONS SHALL YE EAT UNLEAVENED BREAD.

1st CORINTHIANS 5:7
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
A LITTLE BACK DROP ON THE CITY CORINTH
According to Hellenic myth, the city was founded by Corinthos, a descendant of the god Helios (the Sun). However, other myths suggest that it was founded by the goddess Ephyra, a daughter of the TitanOceanus
Sexuality in the ancient Greco-Roman world was quite liberal even by our own modern standards. What we might still consider sexual promiscuity and deviance was, for Corinthians, common fare. Such practices as sexual relations between patrons and slaves, patrons and “friends”, and teachers and students were commonplace.
Corinth boasted hundreds of working prostitutes, connected loosely with the prevalent cult of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Since it was a prolific trading and shipping point connecting the Mediterranean region with the West, Corinth was often full of sailors and merchants who helped to keep the drinking and prostitution trades robust.
Sexual license was the rule rather than the exception in much of the ancient Mediterranean world. Hauck and Schulz write concerning Greek sexual ethics, “The main cause of prostitution is the Greek view of life which regards sexual intercourse as just as natural, necessary and justifiable as eating and drinking” (Kittel 1968, 4:582). Athenaeus devoted Book XIII of the Deipnosophists to extramarital sex among the Greeks. He indicates that prostitution was an established and respected function in Corinth. Athenaeus relates that whenever the city of Corinth would pray to Aphrodite in matters of grave importance, the people would “invite as many prostitutes as possible to join in their petitions, and these women [would] add their supplications to the goddess and later [be] present at the sacrifices” (Deipnosophists 13.573c).

In corinth they had saying such as;
1.”What is foul, if it seems not so to those who indulge in it?”
2.But the problems of sexual license were not just limited to prostitution. The Roman sage and cynic Seneca wrote, “Is there any shame at all for adultery now that matters have come to such a pass that no woman has any use for a husband except to inflame her PARAMOUR?
3.Chastity is simply a proof of ugliness”
PARAMOUR noun: paramour; a lover, especially the illicit partner of a married person.
Now that we have a back story on the city of Corinth.
1st CORINTHIANS 5:1
IT IS REPORTED COMMONLYthat there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the GENTILES, THAT ONE SHOULD HAVE HIS FATHER’S WIFE.
PLEASE NOTE HOW COMMON THIS WAS AMONGS ISRAEL
EZEKIEL 22:9 - 11
9 In thee are men that carry tales to shed blood: and in thee they eat upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they commit lewdness. 10 IN THEE HAVE THEY DISCOVERED THEIR FATHERS’ NAKEDNESS: IN THEE HAVE THEY HUMBLED HER THAT WAS SET APART FOR POLLUTION. 11 AND ONE HATH COMMITTED ABOMINATION WITH HIS NEIGHBOUR’S WIFE; AND ANOTHER HATH LEWDLY DEFILED HIS DAUGHTER IN LAW; AND ANOTHER IN THEE HATH HUMBLED HIS SISTER, HIS FATHER’S DAUGHTER.
GENESIS 35:22
And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, THAT REUBEN WENT AND LAY WITH BILHAH HIS FATHER’S CONCUBINE: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
GENESIS 49:3 - 4
3 Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power: 4 Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; BECAUSE THOU WENTEST UP TO THY FATHER’S BED; THEN DEFILEDST THOU IT: HE WENT UP TO MY COUCH.
GENESIS 19:31 - 36
31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: 32 COME, LET US MAKE OUR FATHER DRINK WINE, AND WE WILL LIE WITH HIM, THAT WE MAY PRESERVE SEED OF OUR FATHER. 33 AND THEY MADE THEIR FATHER DRINK WINE THAT NIGHT: AND THE FIRSTBORN WENT IN, AND LAY WITH HER FATHER; AND HE PERCEIVED NOT WHEN SHE LAY DOWN, NOR WHEN SHE AROSE. 34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: LET US MAKE HIM DRINK WINE THIS NIGHT ALSO; AND GO THOU IN, AND LIE WITH HIM, THAT WE MAY PRESERVE SEED OF OUR FATHER. 35 AND THEY MADE THEIR FATHER DRINK WINE THAT NIGHT ALSO: AND THE YOUNGER AROSE, AND LAY WITH HIM; AND HE PERCEIVED NOT WHEN SHE LAY DOWN, NOR WHEN SHE AROSE. 36 THUS WERE BOTH THE DAUGHTERS OF LOT WITH CHILD BY THEIR FATHER.
2nd SAMUEL 16:22
So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; AND ABSALOM WENT IN UNTO HIS FATHER’S CONCUBINES IN THE SIGHT OF ALL ISRAEL.
2nd SAMUEL 20:3
And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.
What is the punishment for these sins?
DEUTERONOMY 27:20
CURSED BE HE THAT LIETH WITH HIS FATHER’S WIFE; BECAUSE HE UNCOVERETH HIS FATHER’S SKIRT. And all the people shall say, Amen .
LEVITICUS 18:7 - 8
7 THE NAKEDNESS OF THY FATHER, OR THE NAKEDNESS OF THY MOTHER, SHALT THOU NOT UNCOVER: SHE IS THY MOTHER; THOU SHALT NOT UNCOVER HER NAKEDNESS. 8 THE NAKEDNESS OF THY FATHER’S WIFE SHALT THOU NOT UNCOVER: IT IS THY FATHER’S NAKEDNESS.
Fornication is a sin punishable by death according to biblical law.
LEVITICUS 20:11 - 12
11 AND THE MAN THAT LIETH WITH HIS FATHER’S WIFE HATH UNCOVERED HIS FATHER’S NAKEDNESS: BOTH OF THEM SHALL SURELY BE PUT TO DEATH; THEIR BLOOD SHALL BE UPON THEM. 12 AND IF A MAN LIE WITH HIS DAUGHTER IN LAW, BOTH OF THEM SHALL SURELY BE PUT TO DEATH: THEY HAVE WROUGHT CONFUSION; THEIR BLOOD SHALL BE UPON THEM.
WHY IS THIS WRONG…?
1st CORINTHIANS 6:13
13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. NOW THE BODY IS NOT FOR FORNICATION, BUT FOR THE LORD; AND THE LORD FOR THE BODY.
AMOS 2:7
7 That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: AND A MAN AND HIS FATHER WILL GO IN UNTO THE SAME MAID, TO PROFANE MY HOLY NAME:
NOW THAT WE HAVE MORE INFORMATION ON THE SUBJECT, LET’S GO BACK TO 1 CORINTHIANS AND GET AN UNDERSTANDING ON WHAT PAUL WAS DOING.
1st CORINTHIANS 5:2
AND YE ARE PUFFED UP, and have NOT RATHER MOURNED (EZRA 9:2-6), that he that hath done this DEED MIGHT BE TAKEN AWAY FROM AMONG YOU. (1 CORINTHIAN 5:13);
EZRA 9:2 - 6
2 FOR THEY HAVE TAKEN OF THEIR DAUGHTERS FOR THEMSELVES, AND FOR THEIR SONS: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass. 3 And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied. 4 Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice. 5 And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God, 6 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.
Remember, this was a sin unto death. We are to remove the leaven… but instead, we tolerate the leaven.
1st CORINTHIANS 5:3
FOR I VERILY, AS ABSENT IN BODY, but present in spirit, HAVE JUDGED ALREADY, AS THOUGH I WERE PRESENT, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
What does Paul mean by this? He is not there and doesn’t need to be to judge the matter. Why? Because he has the Torah, and the Most High judges every matter
1st CORINTHIANS 5:4 - 5
4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 TO DELIVER SUCH AN ONE UNTO SATAN
What? Deliver such a one unto Satan? Why do we deal with them in this manner? Because he is not remorseful—he does not want to repent. So, Paul says to give him over. Let him go. Get rid of the leaven. It sounds harsh, but it is for his own good—and yours.
JOB 2:6
AND THE LORD SAID UNTO SATAN, BEHOLD, HE IS IN THINE HAND; BUT SAVE HIS LIFE.
ACTS 26:18
TO OPEN THEIR EYES,ANDTO TURNTHEMFROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT, ANDFROMTHE POWER OF SATAN UNTO GOD, THAT THEY MAY RECEIVE FORGIVENESS OF SINS, AND INHERITANCE AMONG THEM WHICH ARE SANCTIFIED BY FAITH THAT IS IN ME.
1st TIMOTHY 1:20
Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
This is the equivalent of being put out of Israel. Pay attention as we take you back to Israel in the wilderness: you were surrounded by enemies, wild beasts, and the elements. When you were put out of the camp, most likely, you were not coming back.
HEBREWS 6:4 - 8
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 IF THEY SHALL FALL AWAY, TO RENEW THEM AGAIN UNTO REPENTANCE; SEEING THEY CRUCIFY TO THEMSELVES THE SON OF GOD AFRESH, AND PUT HIM TO AN OPEN SHAME.7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: 8BUT THAT WHICH BEARETH THORNS AND BRIERS IS REJECTED, AND IS NIGH UNTO CURSING; WHOSE END IS TO BE BURNED.
Ist CORINTHIANS 5:5
TO DELIVER SUCH AN ONE UNTO SATANfor the destruction of the flesh, THAT THE SPIRIT MAY BE SAVED IN THE DAY OF THE LORD JESUS.
This is done so that he may hit rock bottom—out of love—in the hope that he will bounce back and repent. Because if he doesn’t repent, it will not go well for him.
AMOS 5:18 - 20
18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. 19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. 20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
Ist CORINTHIANS 5:6
YOUR GLORYING IS NOT GOOD. Know ye not that a little leaven LEAVENETH THE WHOLE LUMP?
A single individual can corrupt the whole lump.
Ist CORINTHIANS 5:7
PURGE OUT THEREFORE THE OLD LEAVEN,
EXODUS 12:15
Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel
